The history

“Cantine Coppi” were born in Turi, next to Bari, and are 450 metres above sea level, into a area that goes by the name of “Agro del Marchesato” because the Marquises Venusio reigned over there from 1752 to 1938. “Cantine Coppi” are called after the oenologist  Antonio Coppi, who, in 1960, took an ancient wine industry (dating back to the nineteenth century) away again and changed it into an advanced factory up to become a leader in the wine’s sector.

Places of production

The control of production starts from vine’s farming, carries on with the difficult operations of grapes’ pressing and fermentation, till bottling. The vineyards are settled in that area known for tillage of “Primitivo of Gioia del Colle”. It’s from these vineyards that comes out an extensive range of high quality wines. A selection of red ones matures in barriques to obtain particular organoleptic features. Moreover there is a further period of sharpening for wine in bottles with a constant and controlled temperature. This factory has been able to exploit the noble vineyard of “Primitivo” and to give it a great international name, and it’s now trying to do the same thing with another historical vineyard called “Aleatico”. The plants for wine’s production, bottling and sharpening are settled in Turi (Bari).

In the ancient Cantine Coppi

The building of Cantine Coppi dates back to the beginning of the twentieth century. Thanks to several restorations the architectural structures have kept that great majesty typical of tradition Mediterranean wine’s cellars. Today this firm is equipped with up-to-date machinery, such as a particular one used to control the temperature for musts’ fermentation and wines’ stocking. Besides, the great attention to development is confirmed by the presence of a centre for elaboration of technical dates that come out of viticultural and oenological experiments made in the different areas of production belonging to the concern. Nature and men have been able to reward the devotion to work of Coppi’s family, who occupes now a prestigious standing in the national and international market.
